Rules
The Tasmanian State Home Brew Competition (TSHBC) is open to residents of Tasmania only.
The following rules apply to the TSHBC:
TSHBC uses the 2025 AABC style guidelines and categories for qualification into AABC. The full styleguide including mead and cider can be downloaded here. The AABC committee has decided to use the BJCP 2025 Cider styles.
This competition is AABC sanctioned. Entries which recive a 1st 2nd or 3rd placing are eligible for the AABC.
All mailed entries must received at the mailing location by the entry deadline - please allow for shipping time.
All entries will be picked up from drop-off locations the day of the entry deadline.
All entries must be handcrafted products, containing ingredients available to the general public, and made using private equipment by hobbyist brewers (i.e., no use of commercial facilities or Brew on Premises operations, supplies, etc.).
The competition organisers are not responsible for mis-categorised entries. THERE WILL BE NO CATEGORY OR STYLE TRANSFERS MADE BY JUDGES OR STEWARDS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. It is the Entrant's responsibility to enter the entry in the correct Category and Style.
The competition committee reserves the right to combine overall style categories based on number of entries. All possible effort will be made to combine similar styles. All brews in combined categories will be judged according to the style they were originally entered in.
Qualified judging of all entries is the primary goal of our event. Judges will evaluate and score each entry according to BJCP judging guideance. The average of the scores will rank each entry in its category.
The average of the scores will rank each entry in its category.
Brewers are not limited to one entry in each category but may only enter each subcategory once.
Brewers can only place with two entries in each category.
By entering this competition, your name and beer score may be available/displayed through the AABC (Australian Amateur Brewing Competition) website.
Entrants are also encouraged to contribute to the competition by assisting with judging and stewarding during the official judging sessions.
